IHC Movie Review: Oz, The Great and Powerful

Movies and I have a generally good relationship; that is I’m a cheap date. When I go, I expect the movie to evoke some emotion or entertainment for the 2-3 hours I’m there and then we part ways. It’s like speed dating, except I don’t have to talk. Also I never have to see them again if I don’t want to and they don’t mind. I don’t think this is too much to expect, but sometimes even a movie can make for a bad date. Oz falls into this slot and that sucks, because it was on my 2013 bucket list.

If the Wizard of Oz were set in China, it might look something like this

These illustrations by Billy Nunez take the cast of The Wizard of Oz and transports them waaaay away from Kansas, into a mystical Chinese realm. And yes, before someone mentions it, there are koalas in China. Also, if the Lion is now a Tiger, who is the Tiger?
IHC After Dark movies: The 1910 film version of The Wizard of Oz
Everyone is familiar with the 1939 film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, but the first Oz film happened in 1910, just 10 years after the first Oz novel was published and based on a 1902 stage play. If the 1939 movie is your only point of reference, this version will be pretty surreal.

WoW movie put on ice again as Sam Raimi takes on Disney’s Oz prequel

As far as we know, director Sam Raimi is still attached to the Warcraft movie project, but he keeps putting it off to do something else. This new something else is a Wizard of Oz prequel movie from Disney. So once again, if you’re holding your breath to see orcs and humans and night elves battling it out on the big screen, don’t hold your breath.
