Japan develops wheelchair that automatically detects and follows companions

Researchers at Saitama University’s Human-Robot Interaction Center in Japan have developed the first wheelchair that automatically detects the presence of a two-legged companion and /follows. The wheelchair uses and array of cameras and “lasers” to detect the proximity of a companion and keeps the wheelchair close by, allowing the person in the chair to free up their hands for other things.
