Japan now has invented the Disney Voltron. Oh, that is so badass.
Using Disney’s core group of basic characters (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto etc), a Japanese toy company has made one of the coolest Voltron knock-offs ever. It goes on sale in Japan next March for 12,800 yen (approximately $160).
So that live action/CGI Voltron movie is still happening apparently

It’s the retro franchise movie that won’t die, but won’t come to fruition either. But at San Diego Comic Con, World Events president VP Robert Kopla confirmed that yes, there still is a Voltron movie in the works. Just make it already!
It’s currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas. It’s going to be a big action adventure flick and we’re really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it.

Voltron’s Pidge may be a little hipster nerd, but he’s got a good point
I mean really… why the hell did they have to charge in as five lions every single time, get their ass kicked and THEN be all like “Oh right, maybe we should change into this giant fucking robot?”
Awesome fan film of the day: “Voltron: The End”
A gorgeous, well done and well acted live action Voltron fan film with just a single character, Lance, controller of the red lion and second in command of the Voltron force as he comes to inside his vehicle only to realize the impossible has happened— Voltron has failed and he’s the only one left.
Fan art of the day: “Totally 80s” by J. Scott Campbell
If this had actually been a thing, like a movie or a special or something with all these characters on screen at once when I was a kid, I’m pretty sure I would have died of acute awesomeness overload.

Yes, there really will be a live-action Voltron movie

Relativity Media announced yesterday that it had optioned the movie rights for a live-action version of Voltron, based on the 1984 Voltron cartoon.
New Voltron Force clip shows the robot transformation
I was a little disheartened when I found the Voltron Force opening musical number a while back, but I’m feeling a little better about the new Voltron series after watching this clip. A little. Overall, I really like the style… except for the fact that the character animation looks incredibly cheap, like what one would find in a College Humor spoof of Voltron.
New Voltron reboot gets a horrible new rap theme song

Nickelodeon’s going to be rolling out its brand new Voltron reboot, called “Voltron Force” on June 16th, and it’s already got an awful, awful rap theme song called “Let’s Voltron!” I mean, I guess it’s cool to show kids really getting into the show and drawing robots, because that’s what I certainly did, but the song is just fucking god awful.
Take a look at the redesigned Voltron lions for “Voltron Force”

In the past several years, we’ve seen cartoon series reboots of He-Man, My Little Ponies, Transformers, GI Joe, and soon we’ll be seeing a brand new Thundercats series. Add to that list a brand new Voltron series coming later this spring. This is the first look at what the lion bots will look like, and I’m really digging it.
First look at concept art from the (yes it’s being made) Voltron movie

A live action / CG Voltron movie is another one of those Hollywood rumor things that shows up every now and again, usually with the news that it still isn’t happening or that some other company picked up the idea and dropped it. It looks like this time, Atlas Entertainment has picked up the reigns and is gearing up for a big pitch to a major studio to get this thing done.
