Christopher Nolan originally wanted Heath Ledger to play Bruce Wayne

Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight has already gone down in film legend, and it’s hard imagining Ledger playing anyone else in the movie. But apparently, when Christopher Nolan first approached Ledger about appearing in his Batman films, he was thinking Heath Ledger might have made a good Bruce Wayne starting in Batman Begins.

In addition, Christopher Nolan stated that his original intention was to only do one Batman movie, but then once he finished Batman Begins, he was curious as to how the Joker could be woven into his Bat-universe and history was made.

So where the hell was the Joker in The Dark Knight Rises?

Of the zillion Dark Knight Rises rumors that once filled the corners of the internet, one I was hoping for was to see, even if just for a couple seconds, some bit of the Joker. But not a thing. Not a single second of repurposed cutting floor footage showing the Joker locked up in Arkham, not even a single fucking word. Not once in DKR did anyone mention the Joker. At all. But the novelization of the movie may provide some answer. Not a good one, but it’s something.

This gorgeous trailer for the entire Dark Knight Trilogy beautifully weaves all three stories together in just under six minutes. Now I want to go watch The Dark Knight Rises again. Hell, I’d even sit through Katie Holmes in Batman Begins again after this.
