In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. If you were wondering what you might be calling JJ Abrams’ next Star Trek movie, it probably won’t be ‘Star Trek 2’. Instead, it looks like it might be called ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’.

According to Simon Pegg, Khan is not in the next Star Trek movie
A while back, a lot of people seemed really damn certain that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan in JJ Abrams’ next Star Trek film. But according to actor Simon Pegg, that’s not the case. He can’t say who Cumberbatch is, but he’s not Khan.

New photos from Star Trek 2 shows Spock in a cool orange metal space suit
Even though JJ Abrams put a wall of trailers around the Star Trek 2 set, photographers have these things called “ladders” and have come up with a few new set photos showing Spock in some sort of awesome orange metal suit.

JJ Abrams gets pissed off about set photos, builds a giant wall
About a month ago, several pictures of Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Benedict Cumberbatch in character, in costume and on the set of the new Star Trek movie hit the internet. Happens all the time. Only it reeeeally pissed off director JJ Abrams, who had a massive wall made of shipping containers erected around the set to keep the paparazzi out.

Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch cast in Star Trek 2
It must be “Cast all the British actors” time in the pre-production cycle for JJ Abram’s Star Trek 2. Yesterday, we told you about former Doctor Who companion Noel Clarke landing a spot in the movie and now it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch is joining the cast as well.

Former Doctor Who companion Noel Clarke joins the Star Trek 2 cast
Joining the ever-expanding cast of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek 2 is Noel Clarke, who if you’re a Doctor Who fan, you may recognize as zero-turned-hero Mickey Smith from the Rose Tyler era of Doctor Who. I wasn’t familiar with Noel Clarke before Doctor Who, but by the time the character of Mickey was fully fleshed out, I was really impressed with Clarke as an actor, so good for him on landing this role.

JJ Abrams’ Star Trek 2 gets a solid release date
If you’re looking forward to seeing Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto suiting up again on the USS Enterprise, it looks like you’ll be waiting a couple springs. Star Trek 2 will be hitting theaters on May 17, 2013.

New Star Trek comic book series will bridge the gap between the first and second JJ Abrams Star Trek films
Even though JJ Abrams next Star Trek movie won’t be out next summer as some had hoped, it’s got a director, it’s got a script and writers and is currently scouting for shooting locations, though it shouldn’t be difficult, since you can drape anything completely in greenscreen cloth.

JJ Abrams talks about possibly introducing a brand new Trek villain into Star Trek 2
When JJ Abrams did his Star Trek movie reboot, he conveniently made his Star Trek world a slightly different alternate reality than had appeared in either the original series or any of the original series movies, giving him a lot more room for creativity without brining down the hellfire and brimstone wrath of hardcore Trekkies.
