Just a day after Sony announced the Sony Xperia Play, also known as the PSP phone, they announced the PSP 2, which they’re officially calling the Playstation NGP, which stands for “Next Generation Portable”.
Yes, these are awful pictures— one would think they were taken with a pinhole camera through a sheet of thick glass from 5 feet away, but they’re pictures nonetheless that have been confirmed by a couple different sources as being actual photographs of a prototype of the Sony PSP 2.
Since the iPhone, the world has been going more and more multitouch crazy, adding it to every device possible. But this is the future, and there’s a lot of awesome things about a multitouch interface, but using it to replace a physical controller with buttons and a d-pad is not one of them. To try and marry the two, word is that the next PSP will have multitouch on the back of the device.
