This October, Pink Floyd will be releasing their first new album in 20 years

In October, the world can get some brand new Pink Floyd. The album, titled ‘The Endless River’, is technically a brand new album, but the songs are based on unused material from the 1994 album ‘The Division Bell’, so it does feature Richard Wright. It also is apparently mostly instrumental, which, certainly much of Pink Floyd comes from their beautiful instrumental landscapes, but both Roger Waters and David Gilmour have amazing voices that also contribute to much of the Pink Floyd sound.

Pink Floyd countdown to… ?

Speculation among fans of Pink Floyd began after Warner Music posted this website with a countdown timer which ends at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 20, 2014.  It would appear to be teasing a 20th anniversary re-release of The Division Bell, but, of course, wild speculation can easily be found regarding some sort of re-forming of the band.

In any case, the site is worth a visit for the Marooned video if you haven’t already seen it.  The video features some beautiful ISS footage as well as what appears to be footage from around an abandoned amusement park in Prypiat, Ukraine.

Saturday morning cartoons: Trailer for BBC Radio 2’s animated ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ movie

Created by Darren Dubicki of Aardman Animation, the three-minute piece serves as a trailer/supplement to an original radio drama based on the album, written by playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, premiering on BBC Radio 2 on August 26th. Dubicki also created an extended film loop that will complement the audio experience online.

IHC After Dark: Rare Pink Floyd performance with Syd Barrett from 1967

This is a video of Pink Floyd performing one of the very 1st songs that rocketed them into fame. No David Gilmore in this video. It is a performance in the late 1960’s, when Syd Barrett was still the defining force of the psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd.

This was Paul McCartney performing with Nirvana last night

At last night’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert last night, Sir Paul McCartney fronted for a reunited Nirvana (Krist Novaselic, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear) doing an original song called “Cut Me Some Slack”. I’m not sure who wrote it, but it sounds like a Grohl creation.

Also check out Michael Stipe and Chris Martin performing “Losing My Religion” and Eddie Vedder and Roger Waters performing “Comfortably Numb”

Tonight, Paul McCartney will be the new lead singer for Nirvana, Eddie Vedder will be part of Pink Floyd

At tonight’s 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in NYC, there will be lots of big names on hand to perform, including a couple combinations that could be very interesting to watch. Paul McCartney will be joining Krist Novaselic and Dave Grohl, essentially making McCartney the lead singer of a briefly re-formed Nirvana, and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder will be teaming up with Roger Waters on some Dark Side of the Moon songs. Ow my head.
