Skimpy Lollipop Chainsaw outfit gets cosplayer kicked out of PAX East

At PAX East yesterday, word has it that big-time cosplayer Jessica Nigri was asked to leave the conference because of her skimpy attire. Maybe the neckline plunging all the way to the crotch had something to do with it, but what’s up with geek cons having standards on what is an acceptable amount of skin for cosplayers to show? Whatever… Nigri is welcome to wear her Lollipop Chainsaw outfits at my place anytime.

Halo 4 will be the first of the “Reclaimer Trilogy”

On the last day of PAX last week, Microsoft held their big Halo 4 panel. They answered some questions, they showed off some concept art, but the bulk of the game is still in that “we can’t talk about that” region. Still, it was nice to hear something about Halo 4. At E3, Microsoft said that Halo 4 would be the first of a new trilogy, and we now know that that trilogy is called the “Reclaimer Trilogy”.

It’s official: The female version of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 3 will be a sexy redhead

In Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard will be female by default, and BioWare asked Mass Effect fans what color her hair should be. As if there’s any other choice. She’s a redhead.

Redheaded Shepard, who will be gracing the cover of the Mass Effect 3 Collector’s Edition, won with a landslide. Her 19,576 votes were nearly quadruple the votes for the blonde version that won the first round of the voting process.

Portal co-creator explores new, weird puzzle game worlds with Quantum Conundrum

At PAX last week, Portal co-creator Kim Swift unveiled her new game with her new company, Airtight Games. It’s a puzzle game kinda sorta similarish to Portal, except that this new game, Quantum Conundrum, takes things much further.

From PAX, Notch gives a tour of the ever-expanding Minecraft 1.8 update

Considering that many of the previous Minecraft updates have been somewhat overwhelming— adding gates wooo— update 1.8 is pretty enormous in comparison. So big that Notch is thinking about splitting it into two updates, because more than a few things just might overwhelm and confuse people.

Among the new features he showed (all of which are in the video here) are:

-A revised health system that makes health regenerate so long as your character has food.
-A new bow-and-arrow.
-Slightly more complex combat
-Improved user control over lighting
-An expanded world-creator mode

Whoa, slow down there! Wake me up when you’ve got NPCs a la Terraria.

Yes, there will be kissing lesbian schoolgirls in Duke Nukem Forever

This is a video from PAX East, showing off some Duke Nukem Forever gameplay, which has lots of big guns, lots of enemies, lots of funny dialogue as well as a healthy dose of smuttiness. From what I’ve heard, Duke Nukem definitely has the boobs and the guns, but I hear that the controls are pretty bad and that the game isn’t all that. At least that’s what some people who have gotten to play it have told me.

From PAX East: Check out the trailer for Fez for XBLA

Developed by Polytron and published by Trapdoor games, Fez is a platformer the likes of which you’ve never seen. You control this little 2D guy named Gomez on a twisty adventure in a 3D world… and that’s all I can find out right now. But I do know that it is set for release some time this year on XBLA.

At PAX East, a Trekker dances his ass off to Bel Biv Devoe

Because that’s pretty much what the song “Poison” is good for. Dancing your ass off like you just don’t care.

PAX East 2011: A slew of Star Wars Old Republic gameplay videos

Out of the many gems slowly trickling out of PAX East were a number of brand new gameplay videos for the upcoming Star Wars: Old Republic MMO. I never played SW: Galaxies, because by the time I got around to considering it, I heard almost nothing but bad things about it and it put me off. But hopefully Old Republic might be worth a shot.

Check out Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2’s offline multiplayer mode

…Or more accurately, it’s being called Unleashed 2’s “Star Wars Smash Bros” mode, even though the game designers swear that Smash Bros wasn’t their inspiration. Sure does look like it and it looks like it plays like it.

You can choose from characters unlocked while playing the single-player campaign. The roster includes Darth Vader and Boba Fett as well as characters from Clone Wars, Force Unleashed and other corners of Star Wars fiction. The levels include the Death Star laser tunnel, Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge and a big arena that includes a monster than can beat up Rancors.

Check out the trailer for Tron Evolution from PAX 2010

Straight from the venerable halls of the PAX conference last week is this trailer for Tron Evolution, which is not only a tie in to the upcoming Tron Legacy, but adds more Tron story in its own right.

From the press release:

TRON: Evolution is one of the keys to unlocking the TRON mythology. The game’s story takes place before the “TRON: Legacy” events and provides insight into the film’s past. As an integrated entertainment experience, the film will reference elements of the game’s story. Fans will want to play the game to learn more about the TRON mythology seen in the film, but each entertainment experience will stand on its own.

“TRON has proven to be a franchise that inspires loyal fans and collectors and will continue with the holiday’s new entries,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “This collector’s edition will give fans of TRON: Evolution and the TRON movies a great opportunity to not only get the game but also a unique TRON collectible.”

More Portal 2 multiplayer co-op videos from PAX 2010

We showed you a very, very brief preview of the 2 player co-op mode in Portal 2 a few weeks ago, but at PAX last week, Valve released two more videos that show co-op in much more depth. It also shows the apparent exponential increase in level complexity from the first Portal game. I say apparent because they may not be quite as complex as they look, but they look sorta crazy. I am told that the game will be a whopping four times as long as the original.
