Blade Runner Charged with Murder

“Paralympic superstar Oscar Pistorius was charged Thursday with the murder of his girlfriend who was shot inside his home in South Africa, a stunning development in the life of a national hero known as the Blade Runner for his high-tech artificial legs.

Reeva Steenkamp, a model who spoke out on Twitter against rape and abuse of women, was shot four times in the predawn hours in the home, in a gated community in the capital, Pretoria, police said.

A 9 mm pistol was recovered and a murder case opened against Pistorius.”

IOC is dropping wrestling from the Olympics in 2020

Yes, wrestling. The oldest sport in the world and one of the original sports in both the modern and ancient Olympics. Wrestling. The IOC is dropping it after the 2016 Olympics. They said it’s because of a drop in worldwide participation, but if there was only one guy from Kazakhstan who showed up, the Olympics should keep wrestling out of principle.

For most Olympic cities, the venues built during the Olympics are used for a variety of functions for decades. But Greece hasn’t been doing too well financially the past several years, and sadly, most of its venues built for the 2004 Olympics have nearly become ruins.

I managed to get my hands on an olympic torch, and with a few minor modifications, I turned it into a giant cup and ball. It was taken off of me before i managed to land the ball in the cup though : (

How Speedo developed this year’s record breaking swimsuit

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, many swimmers were wearing a full-torso polyurethane suits that compressed the body and increased buoyancy. That suit helped many swimmers break a number of world records, but it was a bit too good, and subsequently banned from international competition. So in 2009, Speedo had to start all over to create a suit in time for the 2012 games that would keep a competitive edge, while staying within the new international competition guidelines.
