Afternoon music: Bebo Best and the Super Lounge Orchestra “Come As You Are”

This is a pretty great cover, just what your Thursday needs.

This was Paul McCartney performing with Nirvana last night

At last night’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert last night, Sir Paul McCartney fronted for a reunited Nirvana (Krist Novaselic, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear) doing an original song called “Cut Me Some Slack”. I’m not sure who wrote it, but it sounds like a Grohl creation.

Also check out Michael Stipe and Chris Martin performing “Losing My Religion” and Eddie Vedder and Roger Waters performing “Comfortably Numb”

Tonight, Paul McCartney will be the new lead singer for Nirvana, Eddie Vedder will be part of Pink Floyd

At tonight’s 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in NYC, there will be lots of big names on hand to perform, including a couple combinations that could be very interesting to watch. Paul McCartney will be joining Krist Novaselic and Dave Grohl, essentially making McCartney the lead singer of a briefly re-formed Nirvana, and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder will be teaming up with Roger Waters on some Dark Side of the Moon songs. Ow my head.

IHC After Dark: Fridge Fighter Pro glitching out to Nirvana on MIDI

A software demo of Fridge Fighter Pro while listening to Nirvana MIDI.  Doesn’t work too well with the joystick I had plugged in.

Kid wakes up to “Breed” by Nirvana, totally nails the air drums

Yes, I do think his generation will have the world in capable hands.

Happy 45th birthday, Kurt Cobain

Today is not only President’s Day, but it’s the day that would have been the 45th birthday of Kurt Cobain, had he not blowed his brains out when he was 27 in 1994. Or when Courtney Love had him killed. Someone was going to say it.

Morning music: Joseph Gordon-Levitt covers Nirvana’s “Lithium”

It’s not the best Nirvana cover ever, but it’s surprisingly good for that kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Aberdeen, Washington votes overwhelmingly against naming a bridge after Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain may have been from Aberdeen, Washington, but that doesn’t mean they have to like him. In a vote before the city council, the proposal to name a bridge after Cobain was shot down 10-1. Currently, the bridge is unofficially named after pioneer Alexander Young. And no, the sign isn’t in honor of Nirvana either. It’s been like that for a while.

Get a free album of Nirvana covers from Spin Magazine
Okay first, I feel like a bit of a whore, because in order to get said album from Spin, you have to friend them on Facebook and give them your email, which normally I wouldn’t do just on principle. But on the other hand, my entire senior year in high school consisted of listening to almost nothing but Nirvana, so Spin has apparently learned my one weakness.
I haven’t listened to it yet, but it does have a pretty good lineup— The Meat Puppets, The Vaselines, Amanda Palmer and Titus Andronicus to name a few.
Anyway, click here to snag it
