Morning wake up call: Joan Jett sings lead with Nirvana on “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

At the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony yesterday, Joan Jett did lead vocals and guitar on “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, while Lorde later joined the band to sing on “All Apologies”.

You can also catch a slightly better video of Joan Jett doing “Teen Spirit” again after the ceremony here. Overall, the second is a better video, and the only reason I didn’t lead with it is because it cuts off near the end. :(

Check out the trailer for ‘Soaked in Bleach’, the documentary about the initial investigation into the death of Kurt Cobain

Soaked in Bleach reveals the events behind Kurt Cobain’s death as seen through the eyes of Tom Grant, the private investigator that was hired by Courtney Love in 1994 to track down her missing husband (Kurt Cobain) only days before his deceased body was found at their Seattle home.

Evening music: Epic vocal cover of Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box” by Kawehi

I know it’s nearly Thanksgiving, but I’ve been avoiding the internet, mourning a few deaths and a breakup, amongst other shit. Have we done a Halloween costume post? Because I’d be interested in seeing what my peers on IHC had dressed as. My costume was pretty legit, even if I do say so myself, but mainly because it took an entire post-Haloween weekend for me to break character. I also only went to Punk and Jungle/D&B shows, even though it’s arguable that Nirvana was ever Punk or that K.C. would have even enjoyed Drum and Bass (It’s possible.) Then I had to do the grungy subway walk-of-shame on the following Monday, toting my wig, some beers, and my sorrow in a plastic bag made in Brooklyn.
If I missed the post, simply direct me to the link and disregard this message..t

Ed: There wasn’t a single post per se, but several people did submit photos of themselves in costume, I did a shitty job of tagging them, sorry. But hey, you’re a most late with submitting your costume, so we’re even.

Nirvana nominated to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame first year eligible. I guess that matters.

Also, The Replacements, NWA, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, KISS, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Yes and The Zombies. A whole lot of good music this year.

Afternoon music: Nirvana playing live in an empty Radio Shack in 1988

In 1988, Nirvana recorded this video in a Radio Shack after hours, as the store manager was a friend of the band.

Afternoon music: Bebo Best and the Super Lounge Orchestra “Come As You Are”

This is a pretty great cover, just what your Thursday needs.

This was Paul McCartney performing with Nirvana last night

At last night’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert last night, Sir Paul McCartney fronted for a reunited Nirvana (Krist Novaselic, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear) doing an original song called “Cut Me Some Slack”. I’m not sure who wrote it, but it sounds like a Grohl creation.

Also check out Michael Stipe and Chris Martin performing “Losing My Religion” and Eddie Vedder and Roger Waters performing “Comfortably Numb”

Tonight, Paul McCartney will be the new lead singer for Nirvana, Eddie Vedder will be part of Pink Floyd

At tonight’s 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in NYC, there will be lots of big names on hand to perform, including a couple combinations that could be very interesting to watch. Paul McCartney will be joining Krist Novaselic and Dave Grohl, essentially making McCartney the lead singer of a briefly re-formed Nirvana, and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder will be teaming up with Roger Waters on some Dark Side of the Moon songs. Ow my head.

IHC After Dark: Fridge Fighter Pro glitching out to Nirvana on MIDI

A software demo of Fridge Fighter Pro while listening to Nirvana MIDI.  Doesn’t work too well with the joystick I had plugged in.
