Gwar frontman Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus dies at the age of 50

GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus, also known by his government name of Dave Brockie, died yesterday evening at the age of 50, and the music world will never be the same ever again.

Gwar’s manager Jack Flanagan later said: “It is with a saddened heart that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 PM EST Sunday March 23, 2014. “His body was found Sunday by his band mate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified. A full autopsy will be performed. He was 50 years old, born August 30, 1963.

Sunday Metal Madness: Ne Obliviscaris “Xenoflux”

This Aussie metal band is the best live show I’ve seen, the only band I’ve made a concerted effort to go see more than once. Two singers, one is full gothic, leather trenchcoat style, long straight black hair, the other singer is a relaxed looking dude, plays the violin as well. Awesome contrasting styles.

Sunday metal madness: Black hole caught blasting heavy metal out in jets
Astronomers have now found the signature of heavy particles moving at two-thirds the speed of light in the jet from a stellar-mass black hole candidate. María Díaz Trigo and colleagues monitored the X-ray and radio emissions from a binary system thought to contain a black hole and found strong emission most consistent with highly ionized iron atoms accelerated to high velocity. Since this system is typical of other black holes in the Milky Way, this new observation indicates that similar systems are likely to all blast protons and nuclei into the surrounding space.
