Much like you would want to look over several new residences before you moved in somewhere new, so does a hermit crab. For any new potential shell, they have to turn it over, give it a good inspection, make sure they’ll fit, make sure it’s durable and check to see if there are any pet deposits.

One of the tiny victims of global climate change are hermit crabs. Because shells are destroyed by even slightly higher changes in ocean acidity, many hermit crabs have had hard times finding places to live and end up planting their butts in glass bottles, shotgun shells and anything else they can find.
