In what is apparently an all-out goal of becoming the King of All Nerds, JJ Abrams has said that Half-Life and Portal movies are in the works and he might be directing. So he’s done Spielberg and Star Trek, and he’ll be doing Star Wars… if he then takes on Half-Life and Portal, he probably should have a major west coast city named after him.
Even if Valve is taking its dear sweet time with Half Life 3, a small group of fans has been working on a complete graphical remake/update of the original Half Life for some time now. The free game, Black Mesa, is now (mostly) completed and ready for download.
The last couple alien world levels at the end aren’t done, but they’ll be updated later. You can download Black Mesa for Windows PC through Steam or here.
If the Citadel from Half Life 2 were a real building, it would be 3x taller than any building on Earth
The Citadel from Half Life 2 was a pretty big fucking building, but if it were a real building, it would absolutely dwarf any building on Earth. By about three times. Yup, three times taller than the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, and that’s a damn tall building.
Back in 2000, Valve had actually been working on a Half Life for the Dreamcast, but you know what happened to the Dreamcast… Anyway, this Dreamcast version had much better graphics than the original PC version, a few new NPCs and some remodeled levels.
