Parks and Rec’s Chris Pratt is cast as Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy

The rumor had been that Joseph Gordon Levitt might be playing Starlord in Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy movie, but that’s just because JGL is rumored to be in everything these days. The real Starlord will be Chris Pratt, better known as Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation.
Pratt was also in Zero Dark Thirty, but he’s mostly been known for comedic roles, and Guardians will be a little bit of drama and comedy.

Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy movie is set for a 2014 release date, and until now there hasn’t been much casting news. Deadline is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could continue his superhero movie career by leading the cast of Guardians as Starlord Peter Quill.

With Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ getting a film adaptation, it looks likely that director James Gunn (director of Super) might get the job. Apparently, it’s his ability to do both action and lighthearted comedy that appeals to Marvel, and with Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s got to be both awesome and a bit goofy.
Marvel unveils official names, release dates for its next five movies

At San Diego Comic Con, Marvel unveiled the official names (As in Thor 2 is now Thor: The Dark World) for its next five films, as well as release dates for three of them and a bonus piece of concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy.

While we’ve heard rumors of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie before, when Marvel released its slate of movies for the next couple years, there was a “???” in the summer 2014 spot, leading to a lot of speculation about all kinds of crazy shit. But now it looks like that summer 2014 movie will be Guardians of the Galaxy.
And since Thanos plays into Guardians of the Galaxy and Thanos was teased at the end of Avengers, Guardians will probably be spun into that larger universe. Hooray!

Leading up to the Avengers has been all about huge movies with huge budgets for huge classic Marvel heroes. But the post-Avengers world looks to more about sequels and mining some lesser known comics with good stories that will hopefully make some pretty good movies.

As Marvel begins to explore the weirder corners of their comics universe, we’ve already seen how they’re talking about a Doctor Strange movie, and now comes rumors that they’re possibly going to be going stranger than Strange with a film adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy.
