Short film animated version of The Hobbit by Tom and Jerry animator rediscovered

This little twelve minute piece of animated awesomeness was made by Gene Deitch, best known as the animator that defined the style of Tom and Jerry and Popeye cartoons in the 1950s. It was supposed to be a test for a proposed full length Hobbit animated feature, but that feature was never made, and this short film has been lost to the public until now.
