Daily Discussion: Your favorite Final Fantasy game

When the first Final Fantasy game came out, the name was a misnomer, not a clue to the decades and decades of endless games in the franchise. By this point, there have been so many FF games in different genres, with different stories and worlds and characters (though strangely all basically the same characters), games that took months of your time, each looking more gorgeous than the last. So of all the dozens and dozens of games in the Final Fantasy franchise, which are your favorites?

Final Fantasy XIV ended this weekend with an epic cutscene

The first version of FFXIV was horribly broken when it launched, and despite some decent efforts to fix problems and bring players back, the game was a flop. So this past weekend, die-hard fans got to experience the end of an MMO. A giant world battle raged, players participated, and then it was over. And any Final Fantasy game, even an MMO isn’t really over until the epic final cutscene. And FFXIV had that, too. But not to despair, FFXIV fans… Square will be re-launching the game next year as FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, which should hopefully fix many of the problems FFXIV was plagued with since launch.

Square Enix releases a crapload of new screenshots from the relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV

At Gamescon in Germany, Square Enix released lots of screenshots of the relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV. They’ve promised that with the relaunch, the game has been overhauled and drastically fixed. The screenshots look gorgeous, but that wasn’t the problem with the first attempt at FFXIV— it looked fucking gorgeous, only everything else about the game was utterly and horribly broken.

Final Fantasy XIV relaunches as ‘Final Fantasy XIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn’

I guess you could call Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 a sequel to Final Fantasy XIV, but Square would like you to think of it more as a total reboot and relaunch of FFXIV, which a couple years ago, had an absolutely dismal and broken failure of a launch. Even though many of the initial issues were fixed with patches, Square has decided it’s just better to start over.

Deal of the Day: Buy Final Fantasy XIII-2 and get FF XIII free

I know it’s been easy to kick around Final Fantasy lately, and Final Fantasy XIII got a lot of shit for being so linear, but I liked it. It was Final Fantasy XIV that made me swear off FF for a while, but I wouldn’t mind taking a swing at XIII-2.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will let you capture and train monsters to be your allies

An old Final Fantasy feature returns. In FF XIII-2 you’ll be able to capture some enemy monsters and turn them into allies. You can use them in combat, power them up and combine them. Gotta catch ‘em all!
