Scary short film of the day: “Suckablood”

Massive fan of the site - I check it several times a day - and I’m asking if you’ll take a look at something of mine. Suckablood is a short film my filmmaking team has just released online, and it’s going down very well.

Based around a Grimm’s fairytale story, and made for under £2000, we’re hoping it might just launch us into bigger and better things.

Five hundred new fairytales discovered in Germany

Just when Disney is running out of European fairy tales to turn into animated feature films, a massive cache of over five hundred was rediscovered in Germany after having been locked away for 150 years. The above illustration is from one of those stories called “King Golden Hair”.

Disney is doing a movie adaptation of ‘Into the Woods’… wait what?

Of all the awesome theatrical productions out there to turn into a movie, Disney doing Into the Woods is honestly one of the last things I would expect. In addition to the fact that many theaters dress the Little Red Riding Hood wolf with a giant wolf penis, the entire play is about completely deconstructing many of the fairy tales that Disney has built its legacy on.

Ray Harryhausen’s Rapunzel

Disney may be proud of its latest top of the line, slick animated version of Rapunzel, but this is Ray Harryhausen’s stop motion version of the classic fairy tale from 1951. It doesn’t have Mandy Moore or a chameleon, but it’s still just as charming.

For decades, Disney’s bread and butter were its top-notch animated features based on fairy tales. But now it seems that Disney’s 50th animated feature film Tangled may be its last for a long time based on a fairy tale.
