Proposal would have Christianity established as the state religion of North Carolina. Because fuck the Constitution.

North Carolina has mostly been a red state for a while, but our state politics have mainly been held in check by a balance of the two major parties. This last election cycle saw Republicans get the governorship and both chambers of the state legislature, leading to some pretty dumb shit going down in NC. The latest example is a proposal that would establish Christianity as the state religion, despite a well-known separation of church and state in the US constitution.

Dig finds evidence that Christians have been worshipping the wrong Bethlehem this whole time

For hundreds and hundreds of years, Christians have flocked to the city of Bethlehem in Israel as the site of the birth of Jesus. But new archaeological evidence shows that the Bethlehem that’s being worshipped is probably the wrong one. At the time when Jesus would have been born, it turns out there was a town of Bethlehem in Galilee, much closer to where Mary was living. Oops.

Dungeons and Dragons creator Gary Gygax on why Christians (like himself) shouldn’t celebrate Christmas
A note from Gary Gygax in the IFW Monthly of February 1969. A topical historical curiosity, yes, but what does it tell us about who Gary was back then? First of all, he strongly self-identified as a Christian, an important counterpoint to the fundamentalist backlash against his later fantasy-themed games. Gary approached Christianity as a system with rules, which he researched and explored through a strict historical lens. If his readings differed from mainstream conventions, he was never one to bow to popular opinion. Sometimes he took things too seriously, sacrificing fun for accuracy. He was never shy about sharing his ideas and defending his position in public, but respectfully acknowledges the existence of dissenting views. These are all qualities we see reflected in his subsequent career as a game designer.

Evidently, the kid from Two and a Half Men is now a born-again Christian. He requests you stop watching his show, because it will destroy your soul. Pretty sound advice, if not for the best of reasons.
