Heart attacks are really bad news for a lot of reasons, one of which is that even in a smaller, non-fatal heart attack, you can come away with a good deal of damage to the heart muscles, increasing your chance of future heart attacks. But now, scientists have discovered how to regenerate healthy muscle tissue after a heart attack, reducing the chances for a second.

British engineer saves his own life by designing his own heart valve implant

In 2000, a British engineer name Tal Golesworthy was told that he had Marfan syndrome, a disorder of the connecting tissue in the heart that can often lead to a ruptured aorta. When Golesworthy was told that the only solution was a mechanical valve and a very risky regimen of blood thinners, he was all like “Fuck it, we beat the Nazis, I can engineer a better heart valve implant!”
