80 foot tall Superman balloon from the 1940 Macy’s Thanksgiving’s Day Parade
Before you know it, it’ll be Thanksgiving Day (not you Canada, you already had yours), and that means the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving’s Day Parade, which means giant balloons and morning newscasters bundled up like its -30 F regardless of the temperature, drinking as soon as the sun comes up, making off-color remarks about celebrities you don’t give a shit about.

Tim Burton to have his own creepy balloon in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The character is called B. Boy, and was created by Burton. Supposedly, the balloon won’t be filled with Smylex gas.
“There’s always been something about balloons,” Mr. Burton said. “You see them deflated and you see them floating. There’s something quite beautiful and tragic and sad and buoyant and happy, all at the same time.”
The European Union bans kids under 8 from blowing up balloons. Why does the EU hate fun?

The European Union, in a bid to become the absolute definition of a Nanny State has decided to outlaw fun by passing a law making it illegal for children 8 and under to blow up balloons. It’s not good enough just to have a choking hazard label or for parents to just not give balloons to kids that aren’t smart enough the get the concept of blowing into it (not sucking it down your throat)… we have to PASS A LAW.

Just like some envisioned in the late 1800s, in the near future, you could be taking a trip to the edge of Earth’s orbit in a giant balloon. People have easily and cheaply sent cell phones into near space on a balloon, so why not people?
Any balloon animal requests? How about a giant T-rex?
