As if Google doesn’t already rule your virtual life, they’ve now make an augmented reality game that turns your everyday life into an MMO. It’s called Ingress, and right now it’s only on Android and only available by invite, but it uses your phone to overlay quests, information and other junk about the world around you.

The suits, numbers and colors in a deck of cards correspond to the seasons, moon cycles and calendar. Marco Tempest straps on augmented reality goggles and does a card trick like you’ve never seen before, weaving a lyrical tale as he deals.

Guy shows off his new Japanese augmented reality girlfriend

The character chosen to show off this augmented reality girlfriend tech is [Hatsune Miku], a voice synthesizer personified as a doll-eyed anime avatar. [Miku] is an immensely popular character in Japan, with thousands of people going to her concerts, so choosing her for this augmented reality girlfriend project was an obvious choice.

The build details for this hack are a little sparse, confounded by the horrible Google Translate results of the blog linked in the YouTube description. From what we can gather from the video and this twitter account, the build is based on an ASUS Xtion Kinect clone and a nice pair of video goggles.

Augmented reality pool table makes a game of pool trippier and a bit more fantastic

The pool table in the above video is equipped with Cuelight, an interactive system that uses augmented reality to turn a boring pool table into a reactive video experience. I’m still a fan of just regular classic green felt, but the water-covered sexy lady is nice, even if it’s a bit skanky.

Say you’re in London or New York or Los Angeles or Pandora or somewhere else cool where movies are set. With the Augmented Reality Cinema app (coming soon), you can hold up your phone, it sees your location and plays a famous movie scene shot exactly where you’re standing. Wait, they actually film things in real locations still? Interesting.

Sony SmartAR delivers mind-blowing markerless augmented reality

Augmented reality is pretty cool technology, but currently if you want to make the best use of it, your AR device requires identifying some sort of AR tag in the real world to know where to project its magic. But with Sony’s SmartAR system, the machine detects the nearest flat surface and does the AR without any sort of marker.
