After it looked like Ant Man under the direction of Edgar Wright might be heading closer to getting somewhere, the Shaun of the Dead director parted ways with Marvel yesterday, leaving the picture on hold. Marvel states this will not affect the July 2015 release date, but we’ll see about that.
If you’ve been patiently waiting to see who would be cast as Hank Pym in the Ant-Man film, you can breathe now. It’s Michael Douglas. Yes, that Michael Douglas. Yup. Well, that was unexpected.
While the Ant Man and Doctor Strange have been more or less official for a while, the release dates were pretty vague. This past week, Marvel made the release dates slightly less vague by putting both movies on the schedule for 2015. In 2014, they’ve got Avengers 2, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy.
At San Diego Comic Con, Marvel unveiled the official names (As in Thor 2 is now Thor: The Dark World) for its next five films, as well as release dates for three of them and a bonus piece of concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now that Edgar Wright’s done with Scott Pilgrim, he’s now fully turning his attention to his adaptation of Ant Man. Ant Man may not seem like the most exciting superhero around, but the comic book about a scientist who can shrink himself down to the size of an ant is just the kind of fun and quirky thing that Edgar Wright excels at.
