Daily Discussion: Open Submission Saturday… keep it or kill it?

So for a couple weeks now, I’ve been experimenting with the Open Submission Saturday idea, and I’d like to know your opinion. 

With the first one, I was going by the rules of “Almost no matter what it is, I’ll post it as soon as I can” and we got a lot of submissions, but the quality wasn’t always that high. This past weekend, I didn’t advertise OSS on the sidebar and we got far fewer submissions, but they were generally higher quality. Oh, and there’s still a couple OSS submissions from Saturday that I’m hanging on to, to post later in the week if you submitted them and didn’t see them.

But what do you think? Is it worth it? I know after the first week, I got some complaints that there was just too much stuff and that a lot of it was really old or not that great, so this week tried to space out the ones that were submitted a little better, but I’m not entirely sold on the idea itself, though it does add a bit of variety, which is nice. But I’ll put it to a vote. If you don’t like Open Submission Saturday, or if you do, say so in the comments and whichever gets more votes wins.
