The mystery of Steve Jobs’ plateless Mercedes Benz

If you’re ever in the Cupertino, California area and you happen to see a 2006 Mercedes Benz SL55 blowing past cops with no license plate, the chances are good that you’ve just been passed by Steve Jobs. Apparently Jobs has been running for four solid years without a plate. But why?

According to the California Highway Patrol, no one, regardless of status or income is above having a plate on their car. They do say however that they may often give a pass to new cars, since you technically have 90 days to get a real plate, even though you’re supposed to have a temporary at least.

Steve Jobs is a busy guy. It could have just slipped his mind for four years. Some people say that it’s because of privacy, but you can still get the same info from the car’s VIN. To me, it reeks of hubris, as in “I fucking made this town, I could buy and sell every single one of you twice over… I dare you to give me a ticket”. In short, he’s just an ass like that.
