Video Of Wildlife Affected By The Gulf Oil Spill At Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, Alabama

This is footage that was taken from a boat off of the shore of the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge in Alabama. With BP and the federal government limiting footage from the gulf coast for whatever reason, this is a sad reminder that the gulf will be ruined for many years to come.

I also wonder if this video is showing the dangers of using oil dispersant, which just makes the oil sink to the bottom of the ocean instead of float. In the video below, you can see how the Corexit dispersant works. However, I suspect that at certain oil concentrations, there is so much oil in the water that bacteria can’t eat it all and may become overwhelmed. I am not a chemist or a biologist, but I think that trying to disperse millions of gallons of oil in the ocean is a huge risk to the environment.

It seems like it would be much easier to deal with the oil on the surface, rather that having the oil disperse into the entire water column. Either way, this problem is not going away any time soon.
