The end of music as we know it: Lady Gaga to make new tracks available first through Farmville

For several years now, the music industry has been finding new ways to promote their music, from games like Rock Band to TV disasters shows like Glee. And for years before that, many have decried the end of music as we know it, which might have been premature… because this encompasses both a new music promotion system and the end of music. Lady Gaga has announced that she’ll be releasing the tracks from her new album first on Farmville. FARMVILLE.
On May 17th, Lady Gaga and Zynga will unveil GagaVille, a farm within FarmVille, which will showcase Lady Gaga’s style and themes from the album, such as crystals, unicorns and and sheep on motorcycles. From May 17th to 19th, players can complete tasks to unlock and stream a brand new unreleased song per day.
Lady Gaga said: “I want to celebrate and share Born This Way with my little monsters in a special way that’s never been done before… Zynga has created a magical place in FarmVille where my fans can come play and be the first to listen to the album.”
I mean on the one hand, it’s not like Gaga is selling out or losing street cred over this, but it is a sad day for music as a whole. Come to think of it, every day with another Lady Gaga song is a sad day for music as a whole.
