Reaction to the Japanese quake: The best of human compassion and the worst of human ignorance in one post

I came across two very different reaction videos today to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and rather than put them up separately, I decided to lump them into one post— one as an example of human ignorance and lack of compassion and one as an example of the best of humanity and human compassion and human connectedness.

Let’s start with the worst first, because it’ll make you mad as hell. Here’s a girl who’s a missionary, who is shit giggly happy about the quakes and the loss of life because she and her friends prayed that God would give a message to the atheists and this is that message. And not like I should have to offer any sort of rebuttal, but most Japanese aren’t atheist. They’re Shinto. The rest, I think speaks for itself.

And now that you’re good and pissed off, here’s the second video. It’s a pair of boys who are survivors of the earthquake that early last year completely devastated the entire nation of Haiti. This is the first time that they’ve seen footage of the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake and it’s just heartbreaking.
