Authorities in Australia have warned motorists not to trust Apple’s new Maps program, as its incorrect maps and shitty directions my cause bodily harm or death. One wrong turn on the way to grandma’s house and suddenly you’re flying off a cliff into a den of deadly alligators and poisonous spiders. It is Australia after all… that could really happen.

Police in Mildura, Victoria, yesterday released a statement urging motorists not to rely wholly on the iPhone’s Apple Maps software, saying a number of motorists had been directed dangerously off the beaten track in recent weeks.

Visitors using the Apple Maps app to find Mildura found themselves directed to the middle of nowhere and into potentially life-threatening isolation.

“Local police have been called to assist distressed motorists who have become stranded within the Murray Sunset National Park after following directions on their Apple iPhone,” the police statement said.

“Tests on the mapping system by police confirm the mapping system lists Mildura in the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, approximately 70km away from the actual location of Mildura.

“Police are extremely concerned as there is no water supply within the park and temperatures can reach as high as 46 degrees, making this a potentially life-threatening issue.”

Police said some of the affected motorists had been stranded for up to 24 hours without food or water and were forced to walk long distances through dangerous terrain before they could get phone reception.
