Japanese 3D printing booth lets you turn yourself into a mini action figure
Photo booths were way cool before everyone had a camera in their pocket. And a Japanese company, Omote 3D Shashin Khan is bringing back that magic with a 3D printing photo booth.
Omote 3D Shashin Kan will open on November 24 in the Eye of Gyre exhibition space in Harajuku and run until January 14, 2013. A technician at the lab will scan your body (much like with early photography, you’ll need to be able to hold a certain pose for 15 minutes) and print out an impressively realistic 3D photo that captures not only your features, but also the basic textures of your clothing and hair. The process isn’t cheap; for a single individual, a 10-cm figurine will run you ¥ 21,000 (~$264 USD), although there are discounts for groups of three or more. If you’re in Tokyo during that time, it might be a neat idea to take a family portrait.
