The ten best films of the 1890s

The very first days of motion pictures in the 1890s were some busy days for filmmakers. This brand new medium could express more than a still photo and it was cheaper and quicker than putting on a stage play. As soon as film was invented, it quickly became a big deal. So what were the best films of the 1890s?
As a lark, we started talking about a companion list covering the best films of the 1890s. And because they’re all in the public domain, available on YouTube, and short, you can easily watch them in their entirety as you read along.
