HTC’s Droid DNA brings a big 1080p screen to the party

HTC and Verizon have teamed up to launch the HTC Droid DNA, a really thin phone with a five inch 1080p display that’s been impressing the hell out of reviewers.

The DNA’s 1080p panel is an iteration on the lauded screen of the One X. Besides the resolution bump, the DNA will bring better viewing angles and amped-up brightness. The pixels per inch on the DNA outclasses any phone on the market at 440 PPI (the iPhone 5 has 326 PPI, for instance). Beyond the revelatory screen, the DNA runs the gamut of high-end smartphone specs of the week — a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM run things behind the scenes. Beats Audio makes an appearance as a headphone amplifier a la HTC’s 8X Windows Phone.

The phone’s screen in particular is blowing minds in the tech press. The Verge says that, “Pixels are virtually invisible to the naked eye.” While Gizmodo coins the term “crazypants” when discussing the PPI of the DNA’s screen. Ars Technica played it more cool, noting the sharpness of the display, but wondering whether many apps would be ready to meet the new resolution.
