Check out the trailer for the South African documentary ‘Searching for Sugar Man’

“This is a trailer for a documentary called Searching for Sugarman. Its about an American folk singer who never made it at all in the US, largely due to bad luck I think, but who became a legend in Apartheid South Africa with young white South Africans who were disillusioned with the state an politics of the day. The album came to SA as a bootleg and really just exploded. He was bigger here than Dylan, Hendrix and the Stones in the ‘70’s and after his album was officially released in SA in the early ‘90’s it went platinum. He remains popular 40 years after we first heard the album Cold Fact. I really believe he needs some recognition in his own country. Regardless, the story is incredible even if you don’t like the music.”
