I’ve always found Windows and MacOS widgets/gadgets/whatever-the-hell-you-call-them super annoying (though I don’t mind them on Android tablets). Do other people find them useful, rather than distracting? How do you use them?

I have Mac OS X and I never use the widgets. I do like they way they’re integrated into the desktop in Windows 7, though.
