Here’s a 3D printer that can print with almost anything

We’re kinda nuts about the future of 3D printing around here, so any advances made in the field are always in my interest range. While there are a number of affordable 3D printers on the market, they’re mainly all plastic printers. The Imagine printer from Essential Dynamics can print using anything you can mash up fine enough, meaning 3D printed food is a reality at a consumer level.

Instead of an extrusion head, the Imagine uses syringes, so whatever you can fill the syringes with— peanut butter, chocolate, marzipan and even meat.

Called the Essential Dynamics Imagine 3D printer, it contains a head that makes use of two syringes, and comes with several tips and options in that area. While we certainly don’t see mothers of the world printing out a meatloaf for dinner, we can see this device being used in the design of fine confections, especially in applications that call for a high level of precision. The unit weighs about 30 pounds, and has a printing area of 8.75 inches by 8.75 inches which is actually a pretty good size for a consumer unit. As far as retail price, the Imagine won’t break the bank with its $1995 MSRP.
