Chinese farmer builds himself bionic hands
When 51 year old Chinese farmer Sun Jifa lost both his hands in a bomb accident years ago, he tried to get proper prosthetics, but they were too expensive. So using scrap metal and a whole lot of mechanical know-how, Sun built his own bionic hands so he could continue to work around the house and on his farm.
Eight years ago, Sun was building a bomb to use for blast fishing when the device prematurely detonated.
Sun spent eight years making prototypes before finally creating a pair of metal hands which can grip and hold thanks to a series of wires and pulleys inside the shell. ‘I control them with movements from my elbows and I can work, love normally and feed myself just like anyone else,’ explained the real life tin man.
