Sure, it would be awesome to have a rich and powerful Hollywood dad that can remake movies that he liked as a kid just for you to be in them, but is it really what the world needs? While Will Smith’s Karate Kid remake wasn’t all that bad honestly, I think we, as a people would have lived without it, even if it is an awesome thing to do for your kid. And now he wants to make Annie, with his daughter Willow in the lead role and Jay-Z doing the score.
Will Smith would produce through his Overbrook Entertainment company, much like he did for his son Jaden Smith on The Karate Kid reboot. Details are thin on the Annie production, as it doesn’t seem a writer or director are attached yet. However, rapper Jay-Z is in talks to produce the music. Annie’s signature song, “It’s the Hard Knock Life” was sampled by Jay-Z in 1998 and served as the title of his album “Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life.”
And did you think that that headline was pretty forced? Just like the entire concept of Willow Smith in an Annie remake. See what I did there? Full circle.
