According to the original prototype, the iPad could have been much bigger and chunkier

Now that there are three generations of iPad out, and rumors of a smaller one on the way, this recently leaked early iPad prototype shows a tablet that would have been much larger and much thicker, more like holding a large laptop monitor screen in your hand.

Nearly an inch thick, the prototype tablet would be considered a bloated cow compared to today’s tablets. A 30-pin port lifted from the iPod, 3.5mm audio jack, black bezel and unibody design of the iPad are clearly present in the prototype.
