Producers say Spider-Man can join the Avengers. CAN THIS BE REAL?
With The Avengers getting closer to the spot of highest grossing movie of all time, it’s certain there will be an Avengers 2. Many comic book fans often lament that Spider-Man, Marvel’s most popular character, wouldn’t be in Avengers 2, since his movie rights are owned by Sony. But wait… not so fast. It actually could very well happen.
Spider-Man in his The Amazing Spider-Man guise, Andrew Garfield, would be allowed to join the cast according to the film’s producer Avi Arad. The only thing that was keeping Spider-Man out of an Avengers film was that the two franchises are owned by different companies: Sony and Disney respectively, but apparently that’s less of a problem than you might think. Speaking to Crave Online, Arad had this to say:
If something like that happens, it’s great for Disney, it’s great for Sony. If the right story comes in, we are now working on Venom first. It’s our first out. So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it because Avengers was successful
Arad has made it clear that Venom will be his first priority, but that there’s absolutely no reason why the two franchises couldn’t team up: in fact, it’s in both of their interests. This announcement, coupled with Andrew Garfield’s of last month, is sending out pretty clear signals. The only thing left to do to make the second film even better is to get Nick Fury to pop over to Japan in The Wolverine and invite Hugh Jackman to join the party.
