Daily Discussion: Three things you couldn’t make do without

In response to this year’s east coast blizzard in the US, today’s DD comes from an anon who asks “If, during a blizzard for about a week or more, what would be 3 things you could NOT do without? Don’t count utilities as any of your items as we are going to assume everything is working fine in your place.”

Okay, first I guess we have to get some logical fallacies out of the way: If all your utilities are working fine, then as long as you have enough food and you can actually leave the building, there probably isn’t much else you would have to realistically do without. As long as you could get to work and still get a paycheck.

So let’s say for the sake of argument, you had light and heat and enough food and water to see you through. 

Other than that, I would like to have my wife there. She’s pretty awesome and it would be a rough 2 weeks otherwise. Other than that, I always like to have my phone, my iPad and my laptop, or as I described it when we were stuck in the snowy mountains over Christmas, my “Bag o’ Livelihood”. 

Other than that, if there was no other electricity other than lights and no internet, I would have to revert to the things that kept me endlessly entertained when I was a kid pre-internets: Plenty of paper and pencils for drawing and writing and a set of encyclopedias.
