In the battle of the internets, the score is The Oatmeal 1, FunnyJunk Negative ten zillion

If you’re not familiar, FunnyJunk is one of those websites that scrapes a bazillion pictures and photos from around the web, never ever ever crediting a source or giving linkbacks and often slapping their own watermark on the thing. The creator of the web comic The Oatmeal confronted FunnyJunk about this and the weirdest internet legal battle ensued.

After The Oatmeal contacted FunnyJunk to kindly remove years of Oatmeal comics it had ripped off without ever once giving credit, FunnyJunk responded with something like “Sorry bro, we removed a couple, but there are just too many.”

So The Oatmeal responded by calling out FunnyJunk, pointing out hundreds of links the site could remove and calling FunnyJunk essentially “a bunch of thieving assholes.”

And then FunnyJunk’s lawyers respond, saying that either The Oatmeal could pay them $20,000 in “damages” or they would take Senor Oatmeal to federal court for defamation. Yes… FunnyJunk was ripping of other people’s shit and then they threaten to sue them when they’re called out, unless they are paid $20,000.

What a bunch of thieving assholes.

You want ME to pay YOU $20,000 for hosting MY unlicensed comics on YOUR shitty website for the past three years? No, I’ve got a better idea.

1. I’m going to try and raise $20,000 in donations.
2. I’m going to take a photo of the raised money.
3. I’m going to mail you that photo, along with this picture of your mom seducing a Kodiak bear.
4. I’m going to take that money and donate half of it to the National Wildlife Federation and half of it to the American Cancer Society.

I read this whole thing this morning, I was going to schedule it earlier, but then it hit Reddit and everywhere else on the web and I finally found a mirror.
