After 115 years, tortoise couple in Austria calls it quits
In one of the sadder divorce stories you’ll read about today, a pair of giant tortoises in a zoo in Austria that had been best friends and a romantic couple for a staggering 115 years has suddenly called it quits.
Staff at the Happ Reptile Zoo in Kalgenfurt, Austria, say the two suddenly have a frosty relationship and say Bibi has repeatedly attacked her longtime beau, biting off a piece of his shell during one attack. The zoo has called in experts to counsel the pair. Said zoo chief Helga Happ: “We have staff talking to and trying to engage the two in interacting, and we hope that they might find their harmony again.”
Here’s hoping Bibi and Poldi can work things out.
