New Sim City will require an internet connection, will be available outside Origin

So far, EA’s Origin platform has gotten mixed reviews, and if you’re both looking forward to the new Sim City game in 2013 and you’d rather not get it through Origin, you’ll have that option. The bad news-ish is that even if you didn’t get the game through Origin, you’ll need to be online and logged in to EA’s service to play.

Lead designer Stone Librande confirmed that SimCity would be an internet-dependent experience. Players will need to be online on Origin while playing, even if that wasn’t the point of purchase. The always-on connection becomes necessary with the game’s emphasis on multiplayer and regional impact, and the use of a global economy that all players can influence.
