French illustrator Moebius, aka Jean Giraud dies
You may not have heard his name, but you’ve certainly seen his work. Jean Giraud was not only an illustrator, but helped to create the unique looks of such movies as Alien, Dune, Tron, The Abyss and Fifth Element. The above illustration was his design for the space suits in Alien.
He also worked on Willow, but almost none of his concept art was used. If it had been, Willow would have been a much more visually exciting film:
