Paul McGann shows off a new costume for the 8th Doctor. Wait, what?

Eighth Doctor Paul McGann showed up at a Doctor Who convention in New Zealand this weekend sporting the above costume, which he says is a BBC-approved new costume for his incarnation of the Doctor, who was only seen once during the failtastic Fox-funded Doctor Who movie. McGann has been doing Doctor Who audiobooks for years and has always expressed an interest in playing the part again on-screen as long as he doesn’t have to wear the same getup from the movie.
“The costume consists of a double-breasted black Naval jacket, with gold buttons. Part of of the ensemble is a courier pouch bag. However, the shirt and trousers were actually McGann’s own and not part of the costume. Also revealed is a new sonic screwdriver, courtesy of Weta Workshop, the wizards behind the effects on The Lord of the Rings.
The screwdriver is similar to the one used by the current Doctor, Matt Smith, but has a wooden handle. The revision comes some fourteen years since the original Eighth Doctor image was established for the 1996 TV Movie; this is now felt to be a little out of date and the new costume - still a work in progress - is said to be used for future promotional purposes. No other information in known at present, but it is believed to have the blessing of the BBC.”
The Doctor Who movie is finally scheduled to come out on DVD, and with this development, is it possible that McGann might show up in sort of multi-Doctor episode? It’s been way too long since we’ve seen one of those.
And even though the eighth to ninth Doctor transition was never shown, it’s assumed that it happened during the Time War. And then there’s this photo of Chris Eccleston from a while back in the eighth Doctor garb… but that doesn’t mean that the eighth Doctor couldn’t have broken the mold and had more than one outfit.
