Please don’t castrate me for this, but I have never played any of the games in the Legend of Zelda series. For someone who only has a Nintendo DS readily at hand, would Four Swords be a decent starting point?

At some point if you get a 3DS, Ocarina of Time is an absolute must. Four Swords is sort of an anomaly— it’s got the same cartoonish overhead style that was started on the SNES, but its gameplay is completely different. Spirit Tracks is fun, and if you have a DS that can play GBA games, pick up Link’s Awakening, which you can also get through the DSware shop.
