The DS homebrew painting app Colors is getting an official release on the 3DS

Before I traded up to a Nintendo 3DS, one of my favorite homebrew apps, and one of the reasons I got a DS in the first place was Colors, a really great painting program. Colors was only available through using an R4 cart, but now it’s got Nintendo’s official blessing and will be released as a downloadable app for the 3DS via the eShop.
And, if you’ve already been using Colors, it will still hook into the Colors social gallery and your profile if you’ve got one.
And yes, it will actually have 3D functionality, so you’ll be able to set different layers as having different 3D depths, giving a whole new dimension (literally) to your paintings. I’m super super fucking excited about this, though there isn’t an official launch date yet.
Maybe this is a sign Nintendo is softening a bit to indie programs. Really Nintendo, don’t ban the flash carts, just embrace the process and let indie developers develop for the DS and 3DS. You’ll get a cut, people will get a much larger selection of software and everyone wins.
