Google moves in on Apple’s turf with the Chrome Zone retail space

Walk into a Best Buy or some other large electronics retailer and you’ll probably see, right in the middle of the home computer section, the big Apple retail nook, with all of the iPads and MacBooks there in one attractive spot to play with. Now it looks like Google wants to move in on that action, with similar cozy little retail placements called the Chrome Zone.
Right now, there’s only one of these, a 285 square foot space inside London’s PC World store, the Chrome Zone offers Chromebooks, previously only available online, as well as a few other accessories.
Google promises the launch of more Chrome Zones in the U.K. during the lead up to the holiday season, and will be closely monitoring how a hands-on experience affects their sales. So far, Google is mum as to whether they will extend the Chrome Zones concept worldwide in a direct bid to take a bite out of Apple’s 200 locations.
