Why Doublefine is the greatest game company ever
As many of you may know Doublefine is a videogame company who’s work includes Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. They are critically acclaimed and more importantly totally badass.
When I was in high school Psychonauts had just been released and my friend Conley and I were big fans. We wrote them a letter praising their awesomeness and asking if we could visit their San Fransisco studio. It may have helped that with the letter we included a batch of homemade cookies, but they said yes.
The visit was amazing and they even bought us a pair tickets to a guided tour of Alcatraz.
Several years pass without further contact. But then I got really sick. I was eventually diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, a brain disease (IHC had an article on it last year). I underwent two brain surgeries in about 5 months that were all around unsuccessful. As I prepared to go in for my 3rd I got a mysterious package.
In it was pile of Doublefine swag and a hand drawn card by Scott C. that was signed by the entire Doublefine staff. I hadn’t spoken with these guys in years yet they found out what was going on and went out of their way to brighten my day.
So yeah, buy their games.
