Comparison of North American, Japanese and European box art for Frogger 3D for the 3DS

While I could give two fucks about a version of Frogger coming to the 3DS, I do like seeing the sometimes vast differences between regional box art for games, and Frogger provides a good example of these differences in taste.

The American version above, is all sorts of high octane Hollywood action, with a frog clearly on crack cocaine, a semi that’s about to jackknife and a fucking SWAT team that’s called out the helicopters on this one little frog. Sounds about right.

And then here’s the Japanese version, which is gorgeous in its minimalism and use of open sky to depict a frog on his way to freedom, as opposed to the American version, which depicts the frog as some sort of anarchic terrorist crackhead about to get his asshole eaten out by a rattlesnake.

And then we’ve got the European version, which looks… European. America was action, Japan was Zen and Europe is sort of artsy, like it’s supposed to have been a lost painting of Rembrandt, or at least some sketchy Turk at a flea market in Berlin would tell you it’s a lost Rembrandt.
