Welcome to I Heart Chaos! This place is pretty new, so there’s still a good amount of dust on the floors and some of the scaffolding is showing, but if you’re okay with that for now, I’m okay with that.
What does I Heart Chaos mean?
The name I Heart Chaos originated as a guild on the Bloodhoof server in World of Warcraft. Over the course of a year, IHC grew to over 400 members and we all had a good time and all, but in the end I got a little burnt out by the game and by running a guild and had other real life pursuits that I enjoyed more (like making websites for example). When I finally decided I wanted to do my own news aggregate / blog type site, I still had the iheartchaos.com domain and still thought the name was pretty cool so I built it from there.
What if I want to post a news story or article?
This site isn’t Digg or Reddit and isn’t meant to be, so I don’t ever plan on flooding the page with 10,000 of any old news item per day. IHC is selective– the cream of the crop, the best of the best, for someone with a twisted sense of humor and a penchant for the odd, the geeky and the interesting. However, IHC isn’t about snobbery either, so if you’re here and you like the site and you have a lead on an interesting article, video, picture or have something original you’d like to say, there’s a damn good chance that it’ll fit in perfectly with the type of vibe that IHC offers. So if you do have anything like that, drop us a line and most likely we’ll post your story asap.
I’m already an Author but the article system confuses me… please help!
I’m going to be working on streamlining the article writing system to pare out what isn’t needed and to make it a more intuitive experience. For now however, it’s built on the Wordpress backend and there are some things such as thumbnails that don’t seem that intuitive if you’re not familiar with Wordpress. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot an email. Or if you post your article with no thumbnail or the headline in the wrong format, it’s no problem.
How do I become an Author?
Authors and Editors are members that are directly able to write and publish articles on their own without any immediate intermediate moderation step. Right now, Authors and Editors are by invitation only, but if you have an interest, feel free to let us know.
Avatar? Gravatar? WTF is a Gravatar?
When I first started IHC, I tried using local site avatars but I wasn’t happy with how they were turning out so I switched to using Gravatars, at least for now. Gravatar is owned by Wordpress and it’s a completely free global avatar system… so once you pin your email address to a gravatar, your avatar will show up on any site that’s powered by Wordpress and has Gravatars enabled. Two reasons I went for this route right now: Gravatar already has a great, incredibly easy to use avatar management and uploading system that would take me a while to develop and after a little while of not liking the idea, the idea of global cross-site avatars sort of grew on me.
I signed up for a Gravatar and it’s not showing up!
Since Gravatars are hosted off-site, it may take a few minutes for it to propagate over here. If you received your confirmation email and you’ve made sure that the avatar you uploaded is in fact linked to your email address and not just sitting in your avatar gallery, it’ll show up eventually.
What’s this alpha bullshit?
I made the conscious decision to run with the site early, perhaps earlier than many people would feel comfortable with advertising their site to the world and basically it was because I just couldn’t wait to get started and I didn’t want to keep it under wraps. So there will be lots of changes in the coming months as things get fixed and added and re-arranged a little, so just bear with us. If you have any questions or suggestions, drop us a line.
